He was a simple man
A carpenter by trade
And when he worked for Caesar
You could say he was well paid
Then one day while working
To his door came two men
They where Roman soldiers
With a message for him
"Build for us three crosses
And deliver them tomorrow"
Then the words he heard next
Filled his heart with sorrow
"The one they call Jesus
And two thieves are set to die"
The two men turned away
And quickly walked outside
The carpenter dropped his tools
And said "how can this be"
For he had heard Jesus teach
One day by the sea
Some men laughed at Jesus
And thought that He was odd
But the carpenter believed
Jesus was The Son of God
He could not sleep at all that night
He wrestled with his guilt
For he knew that Christ would die
On a cross that he had built
He rose early the next morning
And loaded the crosses on a cart
And he delivered them
With a sadness in his heart
Then he watched Jesus
Die a slow and painful death
Quietly he watched Him
Draw His final breath
Then he fell to his knees and cried out
"I am the one to blame"
But as I look at my life
I could say the same
With every sin I commit
A cross is built by me
And that is why Jesus died
On a cross at Calvary
